We've finally begun the packing process, but not before I got some last shots of our first little home.
On Saturday we went to visit Saagar's parents. The family computer broke and a friend was nice enough to fix it for us. The forty-five minute drive out there was a small reminder of why it would be nice to be living with them and close to my own parents as well. We walked in and all of the excitement came rushing to me. Madhu and I hugged as we celebrated in our joy of sharing a home together. Saagar and Mahendra went to fix their car (yet another reminder of why we are doing this). Mrs. Patel and I went room to room talking about the things we wanted to do. I also showed her all of the different veggie recipes and Gujarati recipes I was collecting on Pinterest. Life felt good.
On Sunday, Saagar and I lounged for a bit until it was time to start bringing boxes up from storage. That's when the meltdown happened. I had taken most of the photos of the apartment days earlier and had enjoyed the apartment looking it's best, but then we got busy. The apartment was a mess and the small part of me that didn't want to move surfaced. I struggled with myself for a minute before I finally just started cleaning and proclaiming that it couldn't end this way. I just wanted to enjoy our apartment together for a few more hours. So we cleaned. Saagar could not have been more patient. I finished photographing the dinette and the kitchen and then, after some peaceful time together on the couch, I finally agreed to bringing up the boxes.
As I write this, I'm still struggling with the idea of moving, but taking and editing these photos was really therapeutic. I'm so glad I have these to look back on from time to time. It will undoubtedly be hard to leave in two days, but I know good things await us.
